Does anyone remember the original Victoria's Secret brand? The style, the colors?
It wasn't your racy hot pink and black targeted to young woman of today. No it was for all women especially women 30+. Woman who wanted to wear a secret sexy, alluring undergarment beneath her proper Victorian exterior.

I remember working every Christmas break during high school and college at the local Victoria Secret store at the Columbia Mall. In addition to bras and panties they carried luxurious bath robes, matching slippers and the items were suitable for either me or my mother. Elegant, but still sexy satin pyjamas. Bold can be beautiful. Designers say eco-couture reflects a lifestyle choice and should appeal to women who, for instance, buy organic food and products. Red Wedding Dress

Peak bridal season is almost upon us. After the Royal Wedding and the watercooler and blogosphere blazing with post wedding fever, I wondered how many soon-to-be brides had decided to be loyal to their original selection, change course and opt for a Kate Middleton replica dress, or risk a slightly more contemporary twist with a splash of color. Yes color.

Like many stories, my impetus were photos of wedding dresses that would not just seal my wedded fate but perhaps trigger a trend in minimal-garment Miami and beyond.

My first discovery was a red wedding dress which sent my heart fluttering. Simply stunning. Is this a flickering sign of trends to come or is it here now perhaps in far away lands?

Former newscast producer and author, Tamara Duricka Johnson, reminded me that going back in time, the wedding dress for the common woman was essentially the finest dress in her closet, usually her best church dress. Upon further research I learned that the white wedding dress did not date back to ancient times but rather in 1840 when Queen Victoria married Albert of Saxe in a white wedding dress which came as a surprise. White was not the symbol of purity, but rather the color blue took that honorary title. White was a symbol of wealth. So once this royal figure changed course with a white dress to pronounce her status, women across Europe and America followed suit. So if you're a successful career woman getting married for the second or third time, then you can reference this historical note and feel confident with your choice.

During Medival times, the more vibrant the colors and the more layers of silk, fur, and velvet, the higher the social standing of the bride. Those of a lower social standing wore fabrics that weren't as rich, though they copied the elegant styles as best they could.

According to industry expert, Ana Chertoff, former editor in chief at royalwedding.aol.com and senior editor at Brides.com, a number of designers showcased dresses in light pink and blush at the April Bridal market. Even Reese Witherspoon wore a pale pink Monique Lhuiller gown in her wedding in March.

"While most brides won't choose a dress in a color other than white or ivory, they will choose a dress that is accented in a color with a sash, beading or embroidery." shares Chertoff. "Ever since Amsale and Vera Wang introduced wedding dresses with a splash of color in the late 90s designers have been adding a pop of color to their wedding dresses, "continues Chertoff.

Fashion style expert, Alexandra Suzanne, offered this ruby red nugget "I was smitten when Alexandra Posen (Zac Posen's sister) wed in a red gown which later was displayed at FIT museum 2005. Since then I have vowed that I too want to be wed in red. Red is also my signature color for my brand because I feel such a strong connection to it. It is a color of power, passion, and love." Alexandra is definitely passionate about color. She once owned an orange audi.

Perhaps the most pleasant discovery in my research is a wedding site that offers pre-owned but stylish wedding dresses by designers such as Vera Wang and Justin Alexander. Introducing PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com.

In doing a quick search based on my size, stunning dresses immediately graced my computer screen.

Priscilla Costa dress

This gorgeous piece of art is designed and hand-made by the young and upcoming Brazilian designer Priscilla Costa in New Jersey with the finest material. The body is made with silk taffeta and the romantic flower tail is made of more than 500 silk organza fuxico flowers each finished with a Swarovski crystal. The original owner had this dress custom-made and paid $4,000. She is selling it for $1,750 plus shipping.

But does this site offer dresses with color? Sure enough a bouquet of colors streamed across the screen. A white with black trim Romona Keveza dress, a blush, strapless mermaid style Vera Wang that appears straight out of a 1930's movie set, and an ivory dress with French blue taffeta sash are proof of the growing trend of use of colors in wedding dresses. Even better, the dresses are available at a fraction of the original cost.

While there are no foreseeable wedding plans in my future, there's always an excuse to wear a formal gown. As chairperson of the Black Cat Gala (to raise awareness for homeless cats), our next theme is romance and thus the color scheme will be black and red. While I should be searching for venues and working on other event logistics, I'm now tempted to search for my red formal dress now! Many sites are marked favorite so I'll be snuggling with my new iPad fantasizing about the dress that will make heads turn.

Wedding Aisle Runner

As a big fan of the ABC program, Shark Tank, I'm always impressed with new, innovative ideas that are introduced. I just learned of this company that produces the only nonslip, aisle runner used primarily in weddings.

Even more interesting is the fact that while most churches and synagogues do not allow runners installed from outside companies, they do in this case because of its nonslip technology.

Take a look at the website. Would you consider it? Indeed they are eye-catching and elevate the event. Hmm, maybe for our next charity event for the Black Cat gala? Hmm, a bit expensive for our tight budget. Prices are from $500 to $670. But I just entered their giveaway contest!

Which Wedding Dress do You Prefer?

Is this a wedding dress or party dress or both?

After the marathon of special reports and new stories surrounding the Royal Wedding, there's much leftover chatter about the dresses. Not just Catherine Middleton's dress but also her sister Filippa (also known as Pippa). Even dress designers like Michelle and Henry Roth for Kleinfold designed a replica dress in 48 hours as featured on Good Morning America. See video below.

So much speculation had fashionistas and wedding designers tied up in knots. First, who was the designer of the much anticipated dress? Many bets were placed on Bruce Oldfield who also designed dresses for the late Princess Diana. Oldfield is renowned as a bastion of British couture and has created dresses for famous fans including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Diana Ross, Emmanuelle Seigner, Taylor Swift, Anjelica Huston, Faye Dunaway, Melanie Griffith, Charlotte Rampling, Jerry Hall, Sienna Miller and Rihanna.

Would you have picked the below dress for Kate? Not me! Too modern for a bride that clearly demonstrated a clever balance between contemporary and traditional British style. In other words, be herself and please the future mother-in-law the Queen!

With the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton soon approaching, perhaps the hat fever has infected you. Have you ever worn hats? Tempted now with the royal buzz? Before you muss and mop your precious locks, here are some tips and photos to give you an idea of what' appropo!

First, hat makers are called milliners in England. Now ladies, if you're wondering who designs Waty Katy's (Catherine Middleton's media- appointed nickname) hats, it's Vivien Sheriff. More on her hats in a moment.

Then you've probably heard the term the "fascinator" which is small headpiece with less coverage than a hat but ideal of holding hair in place during windy conditions. Brilliant! Catherine was sporting one in Scotland and since the engagement, these mostly feathered hairpieces are picking up steam in the U.S. Finally!

Perhaps one of the most well known hat makers and boutique store is Nigel Rayment. He also carries collections from Condici and John Charles of London. Just browsing his website is a breathtaking array of sculpted hats that prompts me to find an excuse or event to purchase and don such high fashion atop my head. But you have to travel to London as hat purchases is like purchasing a bathing suit--the shape, size and color must complement the contours and shape of your head. A great reason to jet set to London.

If you attend Derby's and like to hob-knob with the elitists or play one like Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman", here are some from the milliner (that means hat maker in proper English) Vivien Sheriff, the hat designer for Catherine Middleton.

Alas, if you are not able to travel across the Atlantic for a hat shopping spree and have no desire to take up another hobby such as horse racetracks, then you may want to consider visiting Macy's or Nordstorms for a temperament US style hat for this spring and summer.

Simple, Classic, Elegant

In the U.S., hats are not customary fashion for the average resident. I recall when invited to a cousin's wedding in the south of Spain and when I asked what is appropriate, the response was to wear a hat. It was not obligatory, but some type of hairpiece for the mature woman was more fitting. Since I was in my thirties, not quite a kid in my twenties or more mature like my mother, we both opted to wear a flower piece in our hair. My dress turns out was a cream satin material with hot pink flowers print. Little did I know Spain shared this headwear tradition with their neighbors in the U.K.

Alas, I do have a small collection of hats, dwarfed in comparison by my shoe collection (88 total) and purse collection. Most of the time I wear them during my popular Art Deco Tours.

So in the spirit of fashion and to toast the new royal couple, I will wear a hat this Friday. The question is will I find a new, English milliner hat in time, or wear my all-time favorite black and white wide brim, contemporary Deco hat that I'm sure even the Brits would admire.

Women we are searching for the one. The one solution. No not a man to fulfill our dreams, (you don't need a man for that). But the ultimate coverage of our goddesses--the nipple and her areola ring. Like independent, free women we long for a break from work clothes and to wear to thin cotton blouses or strapless, form fitting apparel without the brasiere. At the same time we don't want to risk appearing like loose women if the pigment color around the nipple is noticeable. No we want it all but in good taste. One day at Victoria's Secret I stumbled upon a box of petals. So I purchased the box to test its performance. Will the petals be smooth like rose petals and adhere to the contour of the breast? Or will it be lumpy?? The results are in...

As you can see it's like an adhesive tape so it does gather.

Notice the right breast appears bumpy in the photo above and below.

As you can see the product failed and I would not recommend it. Best to buy fitting top with bralets, an additional layer of support and fabric.

If Sonny & Crockett confronted the vices of the Cocaine cartel in Miami Vice, then Scarface is a close encounter of a Cocaine Cowboy who rose to the top but came crashing down. It may be fictional but oh so close to reality. Buy the movie.

I still recommend booking a trip to Miami Beach--it's sizzling hot with hotel deals, topless women at South Beach, and plenty of art and culture to redeem yourself.

The Beautiful People's Beauty Book

During my research for book recommendations for my book club, and inspired by the movie "The Devil Wears Prada" where an average girl, played by Ann Hathaway, is transformed into an astonishing beauty, I wanted a beauty book with a story. A story about beauty inside and out.

On Amazon, I came across "The Beautiful People's Beauty Book", a vintage (1971) book written by Luciana Avedon (now Princess Luciana Pignatelli; While the U.S. has a four class system comprising lower, middle, upper class and celebrities, Europe has another class-o-sphere of nobility including dukes/duchesses, princes/princesses, counts/countesses, knights, merlins, etc).

After ordering the book for my own historical knowledge (book was published when I was three toddler years old at the time) and retro curiosity, the book details the cumbersome techniques employed by women of this bell-bottom pants and any- hair style-goes period. It also allays my fear that these women were born strikingly beautiful. Not at all. Cosmetic surgery and household ingredients were the tricks --tried and tested by the most notable socialites.

Luciana enlisted many friends including other princesses and countesses. The only recognizable name in her "list of friends" was Sophia Loren.

Before studying the book, I made a list of ingredients my grandmother used at the same time period for hair or skin--beer, mayonnaise, olive oil, egg whites... Would any of these show up on the 70's European socialite's list? Let's take a look...

On lifestyle and beauty:"If your lifestyle is casual, add a few eyelashes and maybe a hairpiece and forget exotic endeavors." Krysha agrees.

On skincare:"An excellent astringent mask, the rage a few years ago with Paris homosexuals, is this: Take the white of one egg, a teaspoon of the best olive oil, beat, apply for 20 minutes. Remove with a hot face towel, lace trim optional." Krysha will try.

On dieting: discipline which later I learn means starving oneself. Krysha disagrees. 30 years later we know that starving leads to more body fat and less muscled and quick weight gain later.

Luciana also recommends private bedrooms, facial exercises (OK), and walking as part of exercise. Some eyebrow raising recommendations include the prototype for the right kinds of husbands and lovers.

Which actress was your favorite at the Oscars?

As I'm typing this, the Oscars is airing on television. This year, I am thoroughly impressed with the dresses by the nominated actresses. The theme is definitely Hollywood glamour--with mermaid fitted dresses in silver, cream, black and sometimes bold red, jeweled necklines and sweeping hairdo's a la 1950's Grace Kelly. So like every website the day after the Oscar's, here are some headturners with my comments. Won't you share your comments as well?

Where to begin?

Let's start with the first winner of the evening, Penelope Cruz. She looked like a true princess in the white silver embroidered Balmain chiffon gown that was a 60 year-old treasure. Exquisite!

Miley Cyrus. I give her an "A" for at least not trying to dress like a 30-year old. I loved the dress from the waist up, but the rest is best described as a white Christmas tree. I'm not quite sure who would wear this dress well. Any thoughts? Would let your 16 or 17-year old daughter wear this or another dress from tonight's list of haute couture designers?

Amy Adams was modern elegance in this rich red dress by Caroline Herrera. In a sea of white dresses, Amy was the red cape in the ring and turned heads. She carried it well and with confidence.

The mounting anticipation of Angelina Jolie's choice of dress lead to sighs and huge relief. She

carefully chose black and a strapless gown by Elie Saab that pleased the crowds. Instead of diamonds, Angelina opted out of a necklace and instead chose rich emerald dangling earrings. I give her high marks for choice of dress but the scripted tattoo on her left arm assaulted the grace of the ensemble. I wonder if she will ever remove the tattoos?

Viola Davis broke the mould (pictured below) as a goddess in a shimmering gold dress against her beautiful skin tone. She was different. She was herself.

Taranji Henson chassed down the red carpet like a swan in her glam white Roberto Cavalli dress and complementary vintage jewel necklace. Great choice! For her debut, she was all composure!

Aaah Marisa Tomei--epitomized the movie screen of the 1930's with this Art Deco-ish silver Versace number that literally arrived the morning of the Oscars. I want this dress for my Art Deco tours--too much? You're right.

Jennifer Aniston is the girl next door--sweet, cute and everyone loves her. Tonight she was a Roman princess in this dazzling number. Would it be unlady- like or petty to compare Jennifer to Angelina? I don't think so. I like both actresses for different reasons and personally think Jennifer and Brad made the cuter couple, but tonight I preferred Jennifer's dress. Which dress did you prefer?

Who could miss the vibrant sapphire blue, delicately beaded dress by Freida Pinto--actress from Slumdog Millionare. She smartly chose a dress style and color that represented her country of India. I love this actress already and I haven't even seen the movie yet which is must!

My absolute favorite actress and dress was Anne Hathaway. She was graceful, humble, classy and breathtaking all in one. Her inner beauty no doubt played an Oscar role in this red carpet stunner.

The big winner--Kate Winslet--was also one of the best dressed.Although I felt the two toned dress was a bit drab in gray, her resemblance to Grace Kelly was uncanny, down to the way she carried herself. I'm so glad she won!

Michelle Obama's Dress--Hip or Miss?

Now that the elections are over, the day after, there was hype of a new competition. Which received more attention--Obama's speech or Michelle's dress? Looks like another close race! [POST YOUR COMMENT BELOW after reading this posting]

Politicians and celebrities or any person in the spotlight (I'm surprised Joe the Plumber was not targeted for his garb--but wait! He has a publicist now!) are scrutinized by average residents, fashionistas, and tabloids alike. Remember Marcia Clark, the prosecutor in the OJ Simpson case? She was brutally criticized for her harsh look. This was unfair in my opinion given that she barely slept two hours a night, much less have time to get a new hairstyle for TV cameras. After the trial, she did make time for a makeover. More like a recover. After a little nip and tuck (hey she's in the land of cosmetic surgeons on every corner in Los Angeles) and new hairstylist, you wouldn't recognize her today. Well maybe--but she looks fabulous.

Michelle Obama has been praised by media for her fashion style and compared to Jacqueline Onassis. Do you agree?

Living in fashion and body conscious Miami, here's my two cents. First I believe every woman should define her own style. Michelle Obama certainly does. Good for her. In some photos, she wears the classic black suit with choker pearls, a definite Jackie O style. But a copycat style, does not annoint one a Jackie O fashion setter. It's how one wears the outfit--the posture, the walk...

In other photos, she wears clothing that says "Tomboy trying to be fashionable". This variation may draw criticism from fashionistas, but it's more true to her person as she said in an interview "I'm more a tomboy... but I like to look nice too". This is her style. I applaud Michelle for her wide range of taste. However, a self-admitted tomboy, absent is the grace to join the Jackie O's or Audrey Hepburns or even Cindy McCains that comes with posture, a long neck, and body language. For example, my mother is always reminding me (even at my age) not to slouch so I don't develop a bad habit and a hunchback. Yes Ma'am. So Michelle is a tomboy. But she can still set a trend. Maybe a new trend for tomboys.

Let's talk about the dress on election night. Personally, I give it thumbs down. Aside from making her appear wider, the dress design reminds me of a Halloween hex. Red bleeding from a black criss cross. While I appreciate the desire to wear a modern style vs. the classic Oscar de la Renta worn by other First Lady's elect, the dress was unflattering on Michelle. Here are some other comments:

"I voted for Obama, but I didn't vote for that dress,'' homemaker and mother of three Jessica Bettancourt from Wisconsin told the NewYork Times.

"I don't know what was worse,'' Chicago lawyer KarlaWright told the paper: "that stupid criss-cross band around the middle or that black sort of border coming up from the hem''.

In reading various papers online across the U.S., fashion magazine editors all praised Michelle for her bold choice for a visually striking dress. Obviously they are baiting for an exclusive interview and photoshoot. Bloggers and viewers were more honest.

On the other hand, I did like the black and white dress she wore on The View months ago. A stately but summery dress. Not heavily grandeur but not understated and it fit her well. It was a balanced dress, perfect for that setting. And oh. High praise on the selection on the J Crew gold skirt with subtle geometic shape, matching cardigan draped over a silk-like brown blouse that she wore on Jay Leno. That outfit miraculously softened those tomboy attributes. See the video below on ABC News.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Celebrates 50th Anniversary

A classic story turns 50 this month. A story of a tangy, free-spirited, charlatan making her way in a big city, New York City by depending on the kindness of rich men. I think those are the necessary attributes to make it in expensive and daunting NYC when you're a hillbilly like Holly Golightly, trying to get ahead in the great big world beyond the hills of Texas.

Since the movie release, the novella, which was "moderately successful" during its time has become a classic over time. Why? I think Stephen McNabb, managing editor of the book's publishing company, stated it best:

"I recently reread the novel and was struck by how easily I was able to identify with the time and the place and the characters, with New York as Capote describes it," he says. "And how kids, young adults, newcomers relate to the city, and we all hope always will. We all know people like Holly Golightly,maybe because they've been influenced by her, but I think because Capote created a powerful character out of a universal type." [USA Today]

USA Today wrote an article on the 50th anniversary tracing the history of the book, the movie, the venerable Tiffany's and all the players. They also show a short movie clip. Below are the Cliffnotes highlights:

* The book was published in 1958 and the movie followed three years later.

* The author of Breakfast at Tiffany's is Truman Capote. Yes, that Capote.

* Capote didn't like the movie but he loved the attention it brought to him and his book.

* Capote chose Marilyn Monroe to play Holly Golightly but Hollywood picked Audrey Hepburn when Monroe declined. Her drama coach insisted that the role of call girl was not good for her image. [Obviously this was before the world knew of her affairs with the Kennedy boys].

Make Up Do's & Dont's

The last time I "played" with makeup was 30 years ago. Turning 40, I am now paying attention to the thousands of new products, ingredients, and functions of contemporary makeup. So much has changed. In my research, I came across these Do's & Don'ts for applying makeup. There's no time to play dress up so I have to get it right the first time. Let us know if you agree or have other Do's & Don'ts to add.

DON'T pump your mascara brush in the tube. It introduces excess air and will reduce the life and performance of your mascara.

DO swirl the brush around the tube to pick up more product. (Won't this make it "clumpy"?)

DON'T apply concealer over your lips. This can make your lipstick look chalky or crease in the middle of your lips.

DO color in your whole lip with a natural lip pencil. If you like wearing colored lipsticks or glosses but they "change color" on you, the pencil can neutralize your own lip color and create a stained effect helping lip color last longer.

DON'T apply liquid foundation with a sponge. Sponges soak up too much product that over time, the sponge absorbs more foundation than your skin. A complete waste.

DO use your fingers (ensure they are clean) or a foundation brush, to blend makeup smoothly for a natural finish.

DON'T choose a concealer that is too light. Concealer should match your skin tone otherwise a lighter one will not cover dark circles. Not sure which shade to choose? Select the darker one.

DO neutralize first then brighten. Apply concealer to neutralize discoloration under the eye area and afterwards add brightness by using a highlighting product.

DON't apply foundation or concealer to eyelids. This will cause creasing and shorten the wearability of your eyeshadow.

DO apply eyeshadow directly to eyelid. Another option is apply a very light amount of eyeshadow base before applying eye makeup. This will prevent creasing, smearing, and help your colors last longer.

DON'T skip facial moisturizers, even if your skins is a little oily. Healthy skin needs a balance of oil and water. Often skin will produce more oil in the absence of water leading to blotchiness and breakoouts.

DO wear a lightweight moisturizer for combination skin. [Which ones? There are so many and I have sensitive skin]

Fashion Week in New York City 2008

As your average woman who likes to shop, wear nice clothes, and surf the Internet, it was hard not to miss all the hoopla about New York Fashion Week Fall held last week in NYC. Was this some new novelty? Apparently not. Either I've been living in a cocoon or organizers were smart and really invested in digital and Internet marketing. My guess is the latter and not the former since I do live in Miami and as my previous posts are testaments to my exposure to fashion. A+ for marketing.

So what was the fuss all about? The celebrities. Of course. There was more Internet and news highlights about the celebrities who attended --Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler, Victoria Beckham, and Sean Combs (the former P-Puff-Diddy-Daddy guy). Honestly I do not follow celebrity news, gossip, tabloids, and politely refuse to. My time is far better spent reading a NY Times Bestseller book for my book club, blogging, or spending time with friends and family. A celebrity's life does not influence my purchasing decisions or really any aspect of my life. Does this make me unAmerican? I hope not. Mind you, as a hard-working, middle-class American, I admire their work ethic. Filming shows and movies is no walk in the park. From experience, filming a 30 second commercial is exhausting.

Getting back to Fashion Week. Curious to learn the latest fashions, and if the runway items were clothes regular women (who are less than 5'9" tall, with a waist of more than 25" in circumference) could actually wear in public and not be mistaken for a homeless person wrapped in donated garbs, I searched for highlights. This video by InStyle.com presented designers Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs and Sean Combs. His line is called Sean Jean.

My favorite: Quintessential Lauren with warm emeralds, ruby and purple colors and classic styles. The orange velvet took my breath away.

Least favorite: Sean Jean for men--jackets followed feminine lines around the collar and short waist. You'll see it in the video.

The biggest trend and another favorite--THE TRENCH COAT. Except we don't wear trench coats in Miami!! But I could use a light one that's resistant to rain. Any suggestions anyone?

Shhh the Shine Away with Shiseido

It's the night of the party or wedding. You spend precious time at the salon or home, styling your hair in a sweeping updo. For many women, they spend more time artistically applying makeup to highlight facial features and colors. Then slip into the knock-out outfit. All together the hair, makeup and clothes brings out your inner beauty and essence. This is the fabulous you that is ready to celebrate that special event.

Then what happens? You arrive at the event and someone is taking pictures and you freeze. No time to check the mirror. Sure enough, your smooth, effervescent Cinderella skin has turned into the hideous, ugly step sister, branded with oily skin down the center of your face and across your forehead. If you live in hot, humid climate, this often happens in less than one minute just from walking to your car.

For me, there are two challenges:

1- most small handbags or small purses do not fit an acrylic case of loose powder.

2- adding powder on top of powder and oil, only agitates the skin.

I need something small, slender and that will remove the oil. Masking it with another layer of powder later causes pimples.

Welcome back. As promised I'm sharing a couple of my favorite picks from the Mercedes-Benz Swimsuit Fashion Show.

Pistol Panties--love the name of this delicious bathing suit brand. Very catchy.

Deborah Fleming is the British/Colombian designer for Pistol Panties swimwear. Deborah combines a quirky style and feminine glamour with a perfect flattering, style cut. After studying in London, her first job was designing costumes for film and theater. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Swimsuit Week

Last Saturday, July 19, yours truly was the prize winner of Miami.com's tickets to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. Wow-- I couldn't believe I won a local city contest! It was everything I expected--glamorous, sexy, tropical and fun! The prize included a personal driver to pick me up at home in a Mercedes-Benz, drop off at the venue for the swimsuit fashion show, tickets to the ANK and other designer runway shows, access to the Oasis area and a patient driver waiting outside for interminable hours until I was ready go to home. In this case, five hours. (The picture above is by Nissa Benjamin)

The swimsuit fashion show is presented annually at The Raleigh Hotel in Miami Beach. The Raleigh is famous for its pool as shown above. However, as you can see in the side-by-side pictures, the view standing at the pool is nothing compared to the aerial view. Temporary tent structures were set up around the property to accomodate the dressing rooms, models, catwalks

and the large audience.

Coinciding with the industry's largest swimwear trade show, the invitation-only event provided a runway platform for designers' swimwear and resort collections with exposure to national and international media, style setters, and fashionistas. This was my first real fashion show --a sea of photographers with high-tech, zoom lenses, both emaciated and toned models (we saw them before and after makeup), and many staffers with lanyards displaying a portrait size badge.

We arrived early at 6:30pm. The two open bars had just opened for service and my drink of choice was a Velvet something with Chambord. Love Chambord! That's me and Cecilia above with the Chambord models. Always have, and always will love Chambord.

After a few sips, my friend Cecilia (who I met at the Tiffany event) and I , explored the Oasis area. All this mind you is outside, behind the pool area. Little did we know the lounge area, bar and Oasis area were all on beach sand. Wearing 3 1/2" inch skinny, strapless heels tested my ankle strength and ability to walk gracefully under unpredictable conditions. At least I didn't fall like Miss America in the Miss Universe contest.

Retreated in the Oasis area were a manicure station (as pictured on left) and makeup station by MAC makeup. The services were available for any guest that evening. Arriving early meant no waiting line to have experts touch up our makeup and beautify us. Melvin, who works at the Sephora store on Collins Avenue between 7th and 8th Street (South Beach) glamorized my face with enhanced eyemakeup. Indeed I will be paying Melvin a visit soon for more tips and the latest in makeup. It was now time to get in line for the first runway show of the evening.

The buzz heightened. The line was forming for the the ANK line by Mirla Sabino. Once inside, we sat in the white folding chairs, a purple light emanated from the ceiling and stage front. Then suddenly, glaring spotlights and mood music turned on simultaneously and a beautiful model was strutting down the catwalk in her bikini. Then another and another. Although seated at the last row, we were not more than a few feet away from the runway. We actually saw cellulite on one skinny model--I was relieved. Models are prone to it too.

So did we see any celebrities? No but we heard Anna Kournikova was there.

Back to the purpose of the event--the swimsuits. Unsure of what to expect from the ANK line, I was impressed with the style--my style--modest but sexy. A few string bikinis (as in string ties on the side) but nothing too risque like those barely-there Brazilian cuts. A few one piece suits emerged with a slight retro look. One pieces are sexy on long torsoed bodies but as you know, I'm long on legs and short on torso. Wider band bottoms are back but ideal for accentuating smaller buttocks and waists. Not for me. Other lineup of designers that weekend included Custo Barcelona, Hotel Bondi Swim, Pistol Panties, Poko Pani, Red Carter, Tommy Bahama and XTRA Life Lycra (R) to name a few and from all over the world.

Krysha Goes Tiffany

Speaking of Tiffany, well this was my first "Tiffany" event and experience. Last Thursday, July 17, I was invited by my new friend, Melissa Berry, at Sea Dream Yacht Club cruise to attend a Tiffany show.

The event was held at the Conrad Hotel at Level 25 on Brickell Avenue in Miami. The evening kicked off with champagne and hot hors'doeuvres, cheese and crackers. Women of all ages attended in their Tiffany best outfit. (pictured on left: Adrienne d'Annunzio from Sea Dream and Christine Michaels)

Soon the models emerged in dazzling and jaw dropping jewels draping around their necks and dangling from ears. My expectations were met. Show me the showroom! Before the next presentation round, we glided over to the display table for more indulgence. Gold strand necklaces with a pink or green drop pendant--simple elegance. These were the favorite by most of the ladies and we could try them on without an attendant (although we were closely watched by an off-to-the-side guard. The earpiece gave him away--like a Secret Service Agent dressed less conspicuously in a Versace-like gray suit).

While there were no diamonds at the display table, the Tiffany collection has diversified to other favorite contemporary accessories including sunglasses. One pair included diamond studded frames. Costume jewelry was another newcomer which shocked me. Isn't that sacrilegious for a brand that touts to be the premier diamond jeweler? As expected, there were no price tags. Having just seen the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with Audrey Hepburn, her character Holly and boyfriend, Fred, walk into Tiffany's asking if there was anything for $10. The response by the proper, well mannered Tiffany attendant, was politely "no". That was in 1961.

For round two of cocktails, servers brought out light blue martinis as modeled by Adrienne and Susanne to the picture on the left. Light on alcohol, sweeter than tea, it was Kool-aid with a kick. I loved it--perfect for a connossieur who enjoys liquor to accentuate all the drink flavors not overpower the drink. For once I could have more than one martini. OK--now I was ready to place my first Tiffany order. But not before the two models appeared bedecked in Bluemarine dresses, Jimmy Choo shoes, and Tiffany jewelry. Gorgeous ensembles.

As the night winded down, the host called our attention to the raffle. What could the prize box possibly ensconce other than a diamond? One of the ladies at our table was a lucky winner. Curiosity about to kill this cat, our friend gracefully, unwrapped her gift box which framed a certificate to a local spa. But the rest of us were not to leave empty handed.

At the end of the evening, each of us received the coveted light blue inscribed "Tiffany & Co" gift bags which contained a silver key chain, worth $100, a Tiffany catalog, and 10% discount coupon for Blumarine at Merrick Park. I suppose even Tiffany or Blumarine recognizes that any small incentive in this shaky economy is better than none, even if your product is "high end".

Enamored with the event, we bonded with the other ladies at our table, all self-made entrepreneurs for high-end services.

Overall, we loved the event. The people, the ambiance, the presentation and the hotel. Flipping through the "mini Tiffany catalog", we wondered which piece would be our first choice. Too limited. The next quick shop option--the Internet. Until July 25, Tiffany.com is offering free shipping on purchases of $200 or more. Normally I start Christmas shopping in August or September, maybe I should start earlier to have the gift paid off by Christmas. Wait a minute-my 40th birthday is approaching in October! This indeed calls for a special celebration or self gift!!

The following is a true story:

Several years ago I was shopping at a Macy's and it happened! A heavenly combustion--It was love at first sight at a shopping store. It knows me, my essence. I MUST HAVE IT. Do you want to guess the object of my shopping desire?

A diamond ring? NO. Diamond rings do not tickle my fashion fancy. I'll wait one day when I get married to add to my repetoire of fashion hobbies.

A bikini? No, but that's more like it

It was luggage!!! Yes, a 22"modern day burlap sack with firm, rounded corners, a zipper and wrapped in a tan and green fabric was now my number one priority in life. (hmm apparitions of a modern day Tarzan flash by). At that time I was traveling more frequently for work and for pleasure--a three day weekend to St. Augustine, a cousin's wedding in the south of Spain, a trip to the Amalfi coast of Italy on luxurious Sea Dream Yacht Club cruise. Those upcoming trips required luggage that was practical, a statement, a testament for my love of Miami and traveling beyond. It also made for a great accessory to my traveling outfit (a little vanity never hurt anyone). More importantly, I felt uncomfortable playing the peek-a-boo-at-my luggage-while pushing-with-elbows game at the airport luggage carousel trying to identify my bag closeup since 90% of bags are the color black and the same size.

Well Mom, (good ol' mom) had once recommended tying a gold ribbon on my black bag for easy identification. That worked for awhile. Then travelers' magazines and reporters offered the same tip. Enough was enough. Peace of mind and fashion protocol required luggage that was a different color, pattern, anything to easily identify it at the airport!!!

So there was MY LUGGAGE--in a light tan with green palm trees fabric pattern. "Wow, are you the ambassador of Miami?" joked one friend when picking me up from the airport after I purchased the luggage. But at the Macy's it was a two-piece set. A cosmetic bag and small carry-on size. This would not be enough for traveling to Europe. (Admittedly I'm NOT a light packer--must bring at least 4 pairs of shoes for a weekend trip). "No, there MUST be a complete set of luggage somewhere." I pondered. Quickly I typed the name of the brand into my Blackberry memopad (which selfishly I still won't disclose for fear someone will have the same set of luggage at the same day, time and airport carousel. It's bad enough someone now wears the same Victoria's Secret bathing suit at my pool, or even the occasional blouse at work. But luggage--that's going too far).

But the price tag was around $1200--sticker shock set in--is that what luggage costs these days? I had a piece meal set from over the years. Welcome to Krysha's Shopping Kapades--translation= Christine's Shopping Escapades. Krysha is actually the Polish name for Christine. A true melting potter, Christine combines the passion from her Hispanic roots with the common sense of her Polish half to create one smart, savvy shopper.

Like most women, Christine loves to shop but may not always due to driving distance to malls and the usurping of other priorities--smart girl. Although she spends more time studying fashion and shopping online.

While Christine may not be inducted into the Women's Society of Shoe Collection (she's still under the 50 pair shoe mark), her shopping philosophy is to have few selective but great outfits rather than multiple closets of clothes rarely worn (Besides, she lives in the city and a condo where closet space is limited too).
